The state’s DigiD electronic signature system under cyber attack
The DigiD system, a sort of digital signature for dealing with government departments, is still being targeted in a cyber attack, Nos television said on Thursday morning.
The DDoS attack began on Wednesday evening and has put the service largely out of action, Nos said. An earlier attack on Tuesday lasted overnight.
A home affairs ministry spokesman stressed that DigiD users’ privacy had not been compromised by the attack and that the system had not been broken into.
However, the ministry warned people to be aware of phishing emails looking for personal details which they might get in the next few days.
In the wake of the DDoS attacks on banks last week, many people were sent emails purporting to come from the banks themselves and looking for confidential information.
