More victims, abusers identified as Amsterdam crèche probe widened
At least 10 more child abuse victims have been identified in the wider investigation around Amsterdam crèche abuser Robert Mikelsons, newspaper Trouw reports on Tuesday.
The children were identified as part of a wide-ranging international investigation sparked by the Mikelsons case and involving 508 lines of inquiry, Trouw said.
This inquiry has led to 19 further arrests in the Netherlands and nine people have so far been sentenced to up to four years in jail. The charges ranged from abuse to the production and distribution of child pornography.
In total, 440 files have been turned over to Europol focusing on people who were part of Mikelsons network, which extended into 52 countries, Trouw said.
Mikelsons was jailed for 18 years plus psychiatric prison for the abuse of 67 children at daycare centres and in private homes. Amsterdam appeal court is due to say on Friday whether this should be increased to 20 years.
