Dutch agree with Britain on selling stake in uranium enricher
The Netherlands has agreed to Britain’s request to sell its stake in uranium enricher Urenco, British energy minister Michael Fallon said on Monday.
Urenco, which supplies fuel for nuclear power stations, is owned by the Netherlands, Britain and a joint venture between Germany’s Eon and RWE. Each partner controls one third of the shares.
Fallon said on Monday the time is now ripe to make the sale and that it makes ‘good commercial sense’. According to the Financieele Dagblad, Eon and RWE want to sell their shares and the Dutch government is also keen to capitalise on its stake.
The paper said earlier this month the sale could raise between €6bn and €9bn.
