Woman jailed after baby eats cocaine
A Dutch woman has been jailed for 15 months, six suspended, for dealing drugs and child neglect after her baby ended up in intensive care with cocaine poisoning.
A court in Amsterdam ruled the woman had failed in her duties as a parent by not supervising the child, then aged 16 months, at home.
The woman was also found guilty of money laundering, preparing cocaine for sale and drugs trading. Justice ministry officials described her home as an ‘improvised drugs lab’.
Nappies
Drugs and equipment were all over the house, apart from in the toilet, news agency ANP quoted officials as saying. A bag of a cocaine cutting agent was found in a nappy-changing bag.
The woman denied involvement in drugs and blamed it on her partner.
The court in Amsterdam took a psychologist’s report that the women is of below normal intelligence into account in determining the sentence, ANP said.
