Hotels, gardens among 1960s buildings nominated for listed status
Culture minister Jet Bussemaker on Monday published a list of 89 buildings built between 1959 and 1965 which have been nominated for listed status.
The buildings include the Evoluon in Eindhoven, the Hilton hotel in Amsterdam, the Hollandse Schouwburg memorial and the Lopik transmitter.
The arts council will take the final decision as to which buildings should be included.
‘Listed buildings are not only of architectural or artistic value,’ Bussemaker said in a statement. ‘They are also part of periods in our history and in our personal memories and stories.’
Buildings from 1940 to 1958 were included on the listed property list in 2007. The owners of listed buildings face restrictions on what they can do with their properties but also qualify for grants and tax breaks in maintaining them.
