Anouk presents Birds, the Netherlands’ new Eurovision song
The Dutch entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest is Birds by Anouk, a song first performed in 2011 but never included on a record.
Anouk said last year she wanted to represent the Netherlands in the song contest with a self-penned song, bypassing the traditional domestic talent contest. Tros television, which traditionally stages the event, eventually agreed.
The popular rock singer said she considers Birds to be a beautiful song, adding that ‘there will doubtless be people who think its rubbish, but I am ready for them’.
The semi-final festival takes place in Malmö, Sweden on May 14. The final is on May 18. The Netherlands has failed to qualify for the finals of the Eurovision song contest for eight years in succession.
