Unilever shuts factory in Occupied Territories
Food-to-detergent group Unilver has pulled out of a factory in a Jewish settlement illegally built on land confiscated from Palestinians, the NRC said on Monday.
The multinational owned a pretzel factory in Barkan in the Occupied Territories, but production was shifted to Israel proper around the end of December, the NRC says.
Unilever first came under pressure to withdraw from the plant in 2006 and said in 2008 it would sell its stake, for strategic considerations.
A spokesman told the paper the move was for ‘purely business motives’ and was cost-driven.
