Heavy snow will fall in the south of the Netherlands overnight, with up to 10 cm expected in Zeeland, weather forecasters said on Monday.

Central parts of the country will have up to 5 cm of snow as a ‘small but nasty area of low pressure’ moves in from Britain, according to weather bureau Meteo Consult.
The snow is expected to stick because of the freezing temperatures, and motoring organisations are warning drivers to take extra care on the roads, particularly during the Tuesday morning rush hour.
The NS and ProRail are also planning to run reduced train services on Tuesday.
Freeze
At least five people were injured in crashes caused by the slippery conditions on Monday, Nos television said.
The Wadden Sea island of Terschelling was the coldest place in the country on Sunday night, as the temperature dropped to -9 Celsius. In central and western parts the temperature fell to as low as -8 Celsius.
During the day, temperatures are remaining below zero, and that is expected to continue for several days to come. According to the KNMI weather bureau, the chance of the cold weather continuing past next weekend is around 60%.
Ice
Speculation about the likelihood of being able to skate on natural ice is mounting as the temperature drops.
The lack of snow in the northern provinces means the ice growth will be optimal as the freeze continues. Website weeronline.nl says by the end of the week, the ice may be thick enough in flooded fields and outdoor ice rinks to allow safe skating in northern parts.
A number of local ice clubs are hoping to hold the first marathon on natural ice – not on lakes and canals but on specially-prepared temporary rinks.
