Den Bosch mayor apologises to footballer over monkey chants
The mayor of Den Bosch has written an open letter to AZ striker Jozy Altidore, who was subjected to racist chanting during Tuesday’s Dutch cup match in the city.
In the letter, published in local paper Brabants Dagblad, Ton Rombouts says he is shocked by the supporters’ behaviour and full of wonder for Altidore’s reaction.
After the match, the American said he would pray for his tormentors.
In the Dutch-language letter, Rombouts invites Altidore and a partner to visit the city and says they will enjoy the warm hospitality it offers.
