Cuts in spending on childcare agreed by the five-party coalition earlier this year should not go ahead, according to Christian Democrat leader Sybrand van Haersma Buma, who is one of the signatories to the deal.

The CDA leader told Nos television the party wants to stop parents being faced with ‘the difficult choice of possibly stopping work because of the cost’.
‘We want to make it clear that one-third of childcare costs will be paid for [by the state],’ Van Haersma Buma said.
The cuts in childcare benefits which the five parties agreed come to €150m, Nos television said.
The CDA’s shift in position is the latest in a string of u-turns by parties which had signed up for the spring budget agreement. Plans to tax travel expenses are also likely to be dropped.
