Nedcar workers down tools over redundancy plan

Workers at car maker Nedcar walked out on Thursday afternoon in protest at Mitsubishi’s refusal to negotiate a new redundancy regime, news agency ANP reported.

Some 1,500 people work at Nedcar and their jobs are under threat because Mitusbishi is halting production at the end of this year. So far, no new company has been found to take over the factory.
Unions and the Nedcar works council had given Nedcar and the Japanese car firm until last Friday to agree to a new plan to cover retraining and redundancy pay.
