Utrecht University is the highest placed Dutch academic institution on the latest Times Higher Education ranking of the top 200 universities worldwide.

Utrecht is in 68th place, Wageningen 75th, Leiden 79th and Amsterdam is 92nd. Last year, no Dutch universities made the top 100.
Tilburg is the only Dutch university not to make the top 200. Tilburg says the list is focused on medicine and science, whereas it specialises in economics.
The league is led this year by the California Institute of Technology, which has overtaken Harvard.
Dominance
With 12 universities in the overall rankings, the Netherlands ranks third in terms of the number of ranked institutions, behind the US and Britain.
According to the Volkskrant, the rise in the position of Dutch universities is due to ‘refining the new methodology’ which was introduced last year. Then, no Dutch universities made the top 100.
Teaching accounts for 30% of the final score, research 30% and citations – its research influence – 30%. The rest of the score is made up of its international mix (7.5%) and industry income for innovation (2.5%). Last year the international mix accounted for 5% and citations 32.5%.
