Home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner is in line for a move to the Council of State, the country’s highest advisory body and supreme court, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.

The paper says political sources are tipping Donner as a successor to the body’s deputy chairman Tjeenk Willink. Ministers are due to discuss Willink’s replacement at Friday’s cabinet meeting.
The Council of State has two main roles: it advises the Dutch government and parliament on legislation and governance and is also the country’s highest administrative court. It has a workforce of some 600, of whom 300 are lawyers.
Every year, the Council of State produces some 650 advisory opinions on legislation and hears thousands of legal appeals. Queen Beatrix is the Council’s president.
