Amsterdam’s most notorious brothel Yab Yum, closed by the council in 2008 because of the owner’s alleged criminal connections, could re-open next year, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.

The paper says a Baarn-based property developer Chris Kraijpoel, has gone to court to force through the building’s sale for €4m. The deal was first agreed last year but has become bogged down in a legal minefield. Now, Amsterdam district court has ordered the current owner to finalise the sale within seven days.
The Telegraaf says Kraijpoel will not be able to run the brothel himself because he is a suspect in a money-laundering case and was once arrested in connection with a murder. However, he has found a ‘clean’ person to apply to the council for a licence to operate the club.
Yab Yum lost its operating licence after council officials said they suspected the club’s owner had criminal links and was a front for the motorbike gang Hells Angels.
Since 2003, special legislation known as Bibob has given civil servants the right to check out the background of people applying for a licence to operate in a number of areas, including the sex and soft drugs industries.
