Hunters reject goose cull plan

A plan drawn up by hunting and nature organisations to half the size of the wild goose population has been rejected by the hunting lobby itself, the Telegraaf reports.

The KNJV is one of eight organisations which drew up the plan to shoot 100,000 geese within the next five years in an effort to reduce the damage the birds cause to farmland.
But hunters say shooting 100,000 geese during the summer months, when lakes are full of tourists, will be bad for their image, the paper says. In addition, they say the agreement is poorly thought-out and premature.
Bird protection group Vogelbescherming is also a party to the agreement. Its members still have to vote on the plan.
