Safety council to investigate gun laws

The national safety council is to look into the way Dutch gun licences are awarded in the wake of the weekend’s fatal shooting in Alphen aan der Rijn.

Gunman Tristan van der Vlis shot dead six people with three guns which he legally owned, despite having a history of mental illness.
Once the investigation has been completed, the government will decide if the rules need to be tightened up, justice minister Ivo Opstelen said.
