Amsterdam crèche scandal prompts flood of other cases

The arrest of three men in connection with a child abuse scandal at Amsterdam daycare centres this week prompted a flood of reports of other cases on Wednesday.

In Assen, police gave details of a major investigation into child abuse in Drenthe. The case centres on a 50-year-old man, arrested in September, who had 200,000 images of children and hundreds of films stored on his computer.
The justice ministry says it is the biggest child pornography case ever uncovered in the north of the country.

Meanwhile, the public prosecution department in Haarlem has arrested a 37-year-old man from Krommenie who is believed to be part of an international paedophile ring known as ‘lost boy’, according to Wednesday media reports.
He is suspected of abusing a 14-year-old boy in Brazil last year. He also runs a website where tens of thousands of child pornography images have been found, news agencies said.
In Almere, a 42-year-old man has been jailed for eight years for abusing two six-year-old girls. He also confessed to other sex attacks at the beginning of this century following a dna match.
And in Nijmegen, a 19-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the alleged abuse of a number of children at a local football club. The abuse involved boys aged between 12 and 14.
