62% think dual nationality should be phased out, minister can keep hers

Some 62% of the population think the government should do all it can to stop Dutch citizens having dual nationality, according to a poll by Maurice de Hond.

But only 39% think new junior health minister Marlies Veldhuijzen van Zanten-Hyllner should be forced to give up her Swedish nationality, the poll found. The minister was born in Sweden and has a Swedish father.
The minister’s dual nationality will come under focus this week when parliament debates the new coalition agreement.
The coalition agreement includes a commitment to phase out dual nationality where possible.
