Drivers in Arnhem paid to avoid rush hour
Drivers in Arnhem and Nijmgegen are to be able to earn up to €150 by avoiding certain roads during rush hour, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.
City and provincial officals hope the project will lead to a 3% reduction in road use during peak periods.
Cameras have picked out the number plates of potential particpants on the RegioRing – the regional ring road made up of parts of the A12, A15, A50, A73 and A325. These drivers have been invited to take part in the two-year trial, the paper says.
Drivers will be given a virtual budget and 10 cents will be deducted every time they use the roads during rush hour. A registration system will record the journeys made.
In total, officials hope 15,000 drivers will take part in the Slim Prijzen trials, which are costing €15m.
