Extra security for party leaders ahead of the election

The counter-terrorism body has ordered increased security measures for some political party leaders ahead of the June 9 general election.

Labour leader Job Cohen, GroenLinks leader Femke Halsema, and the two Liberal party leaders Mark Rutte and Alexander Pechtold will all be accompanied by bodyguards during public appearances, although the supervision will be discrete.
In addition, the NCTb has hired two private security firms to advise political parties, Nos tv reports.
Although no direct threats have been made, the tough talking about Islam during the campaign could give rise to disturbances, NCTb chief Eric Akerboom said last week.
