ChristenUnie wants Sunday trucking ban
A member of the European parliament for the orthodox Christian party ChristenUnie has called for a European-wide halt to freight transport by road on Sundays, news agency ANP reports.
Peter van Dalen, who is deputy chairman of the European parliament’s transport committee, said a Europe-wide ban would end the current plethora of rules governing trucking. For example, truckers are banned from taking to the roads on Sunday in Germany.
‘This would also contribute to Sunday as a day of rest and allow people to go to church in peace,’ ANP quoted Van Dalen as saying.
