Killer gets 12 years for shooting policewoman
A 50-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in jail and psychiatric prison for shooting policewoman Gabrielle Cevat last year.
The public prosecution department had called for an 18-year sentence for Franklin F who shot dead Cervat in an Amstelveen street in July 2008.
The sentence is lighter than demanded because F was not aware Cervat was a police woman, news agency ANP quoted the judges as saying.
Cervat was on her way to work a night shift when she saw a car driving erratically. She followed the car and wanted to speak to the driver when he parked, but he shot her at point blank range.
