Animal rights campaigners release mink

Animal rights campaigners this weekend released 2,500 mink from a fur farm near Rotterdam, news agency ANP reports.

Most of the mink have been recovered but a number were run over by cars, ANP said.
The farm buildings were also daubed with the letters DBF, short for dierenbevrijdingsfront (animal liberation front), ANP reported.
The Netherlands is the third biggest producer of mink fur in the world. Some four million animals are killed for their pelts every year. Efforts to phase out fur farming have stalled over proper compensation for fur farmers.
