The Dutch spent €905m on bicycles in 2008, an increase of 7% on the previous year, according to figures from motoring organisation Bovag, says NOS tv.

Bikes with small electric motors were particularly popular last year, Bovag said. The economic downturn did not effect sales in the fourth quarter of last year.
