F-16 has a much longer life
The F-16 fighter jet which the government plans to replace with the JSF from 2013, has a much longer life than envisaged and can be kept in operation until 2022, says Leiden PhD student Bert Kreemers in his thesis.
The F-16 has not only flown far fewer hours than originally planned but has also undergone major modernisation, stretching its life by 10 years, Kreemers is quoted as saying in Tuesday’s Volkskrant.
Kreemers is a former ministry of defence official and also worked that the Clingendael research institute, the paper says.
