‘Few transplant hearts used in Holland’

Only one-third of the 167 hearts donated for transplant in the Netherlands in 2007 went to Dutch patients, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.

The rest were either transplanted abroad or destroyed because they become too old to be used, the paper says.
In Germany, 65% of hearts available for transplant go to German citizens, the paper says.
The Telegraaf says the heart transplant patients’ association has written to health minister Ab Klink urging him to take action.
