Bos’s role on Iraq investigation disputed
A former Christian Democrat MP has reignited the debate on whether or not Labour leader Wouter Bos fought hard enough for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Netherlands’ involvement in the Iraq war.
Sytze Faber said on Wednesday that Bos ‘did not fight like a lion’ for a parliamentary investigation on Iraq during negotiations between Christian Democrats, Labour and the ChristenUnie on the formation of a coalition government, says the Volkskrant.
Bos has always maintained he made an investigation part of his party’s demands during the negotiations.
The finance minister refutes the comment, pointing to a book Faber wrote about his experiences as part of the negotiating team, says the paper.
In the book, Faber says an Iraq investigation was a ‘point of strife’ and a ‘demand’ that Labour only gave up on in the final phase of negotiations.
