A senior Rotterdam police officer sacked after he was accused of spying for Morocco may lose his Dutch nationality if investigations show he did pass on confidential information, the AD reports on Thursday.

Sources tell the paper that if the man did actively spy for the Moroccan authorities, the public prosecution department will try to take away his Dutch passport.
During his work as a policeman, the 38-year-old man focussed on youth integration issues.
A police colleague told the AD that former colleagues in the force were totally amazed by the allegations. ‘He was extremely busy with his own project and we do not think he can have passed on really important information,’ one told the paper.
Police investigation
Initially the public prosecution service said it did not have sufficient evidence to start a criminal investigation into the case.
But according to Thursday’s Volkskrant, the prosecution department has now confirmed that the police will investigate the spying allegations. As a result the man has now been suspended from his current job at Rotterdam airport, the paper says.
According to media reports, the ex-police officer was passing on information to the Moroccan secret service. The affair was revealed by a tv programme earlier this week.
