Lawyer suspected in art theft
A lawyer, Arthur van der Biezen, is a suspect in the robbery of five paintings from the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem in 2002, reports ANP news agency on Tuesday.
Biezen denies any involvement with the robbery, according to his legal representative Stijn Franken, says ANP. Franken confirms that the public prosecution is treating his client as a suspect.
The paintings were recovered on Saturday following a raid at the home of a businessman in Den Bosch.
The works of art, including a painting by Jan Steen, have a combined value of $4.3m, according to foreign news reports.
