Gas extraction stopped as ground sinks
Canadian firm Vermillion has stopped extracting natural gas from close to the Friesian village of Franeker because the ground level is sinking too fast, news agency ANP reported on Wednesday.
The ground level has gone down by 15cm over the past year. Officials are now investigating the cause and the results will be used to decide if gas extraction can be resumed.
