Gun owners don’t get police visits

Gun owners are supposed to get a home visit from the police every year but many don’t because of manpower shortages, the GPD newspaper group reports on Monday.

The spot checks are to make sure weapons are being kept securely. The yearly target is only met in Flevoland and Groningen, the papers say. Utrecht has the worst record: only 10% of gun owners get an annual visit.
The Netherlands has some 70,000 licensed gun owners.
