‘Many Caesarean sections unnecessary’
Many women who give birth by Caesarean section because their baby is lying in a breech position undergo unnecessary surgery, according to a report in the new issue of a Dutch medical journal.
Researchers at the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven say a method to turn around babies has proved successful in 46% of cases, reports Friday’s Telegraaf. In total, 209 women underwent the new procedure.
The number of Cesarian sections on women with a breech baby rose from 50% in 2000 to 80% in 2006, the researchers said.
