Dairy farmers told to end blockade
Dairy farmers attached to the Dutch Dairymen Board were ordered by judges to give up their blockade of the Friesland Food factory in Nijkerk on Monday.
The blockade, in protest at milk prices, began on Friday and was beginning to have an affect on milk supplies in supermarkets, NOS tv reported. A second blockade of the Campina plant in Heilloo is continuing.
The DDB represents around one-third of the country’s dairy farmers. It says the current price of a litre of milk – between 30 and 34 cents – is well-below the cost of production.
