Soap

So the latest episode in the ‘Iron Rita’ soap has been unveiled. Having left the Liberal party (VVD), Rita Verdonk has a political movement of her own.
Her love of media attention makes Paris Hilton seem introverted. No surprise then, that Trots op Nederland was launched with great fanfare.
Never one to shy from controversy, the outspoken politico‘s ambition is to become the first female premier in the Netherlands, and she plans to go about this is by solving all the country’s ills. Apparently she will improve traffic jams, integration, safety, care for the elderly, and education.
So what if she doesn’t actually have any ideas? ‘Ordinary people have wonderful ideas,’ she told the Volkskrant. ‘People can persuade me. I’m a good listener. But ultimately I make the decisions.’
And so what if she has no money? You are welcome to donate to the ‘friends of Rita Verdonk’ foundation, although you have no say in how the money is spent.
And as this movement isn’t a political party, it means you can’t join even if you wanted to.
‘Verdonk’s interviews yesterday were broken down into ten-minute slots. ‘I always give short answers,’ she told the Volkskrant. Coming from someone who in 2006 was elected ‘worst politician’ by her fellow MPs, perhaps that’s something to be grateful for.
