Petrol tax accounts for 63% of litre price

The government gets 61.5% of the price consumers pay for petrol and this will go up to almost 63% in the coming six months, according to the motoring sector’s trade organisation Bovag.


The duty, surcharges and vat on diesel comes out at 50.7% of the total price at the moment but is set to rise to 53.6% in January.
