Duck
It would be nice, now that the schools are going back and life is returning to normal after the summer break, if MP Geert Wilders would finally take himself off on holiday and leave the front pages to everyone else.
He could probably do with a break because he has had a very busy few weeks. While the rest of parliament has been relaxing, Wilders, leader of the anti-immigration party PVV, has been hard at work making wonderful use of the vacuum left by the silly season to seize headlines galore with his own particular brand of Muslim-bashing.
Wilders has gotten more extreme in the process – moving from urging Muslims to tear out half the Koran’s pages to calling for the book to be totally banned. This has, sadly and inevitably, boosted his own party’s fortunes in the polls in the process, even though a host of experts have said Wilders does not have a clue what he is talking about.
Wilders told the AD at the weekend that the Koran was a fascist book and if every offensive passage was removed, the leftover pages would be as ‘thick as a Donald Duck comic’.
Coincidently, last week, it emerged that the weekly Donald Duck is the most popular men’s magazine in the country. Wilder’s comments would, therefore, seem to say something about his own reading habits.
