Indecent
Leggings may be back as a fashion item (worn under a dress or skirt) but a minister in the Brabant village of Nederhemert has told his female flock that this garment is not welcome in his church or village, reports the Volkskrant.
Minister W. J. op ‘t Hof has written an article in the church magazine reminding women to make sure their skirts are decent: ‘dress modestly, not to challenge, provoke or distract’.
Op ‘t Hof tells the paper: ‘On biblical grounds, we respect the difference between men and women,’. And leggings under a skirt are still trousers and therefore only suitable for men. On top of this, the length of skirts worn over the leggings is getting shorter. ‘A skirt should be knee-length, if not longer,’ says the minister.
So far, no one has tried to enter his church in leggings. If they did, he would consider showing her the door. ‘You have to draw a line somewhere. It is about the difference between the sexes.’
