Registrar resigns over gay marriages

A local council executive for the orthodox ChristenUnie party has stepped down as registrar in the Frisian town of Drachten because of his opposition to gay marriages.

Jan Rozema said he could not carry out the council’s wishes and marry gay couples. The new government, which includes the ChristenUnie, has decided to leave this issue up to individual local authorities to solve.
