Recycling surcharge too high

The recycling surcharge consumers pay on household appliance is too high, the Dutch Retail council (RND) said in today’s Algemeen Dagblad.

The RND said the companies in charge of the recycling currently have a cash surplus of €200m, enough to cover their costs for the foreseeable future.
The paper said an unpublished report by the environment ministry says the surcharge system is both untransparent and undemocratic.
