PSV scores administrative own goal

PSV will be kicking themselves this evening as they line up in London to face Arsenal in their crucial Champions League football tie. With several important players injured, the Eindhoven team is desperate for reinforcements. Talented mid-fielder John de Jong would have been an ideal replacement – but he can’t play because PSV forgot to register his name with UEFA.

This wouldn’t be so bad if it was a one-off mistake. But six years ago PSV forgot to register super-striker Ruud van Nistelrooij for a game.
The man in charge of PSV administration Stan Valckx admits a mistake has been made. ‘This had never should have happened,’ he told today’s Volkskrant.
