Holland’s international reputation for tolerance has taken another knock, says today’s Volkskrant. The paper reports that only one Dutch company fares well in a survey to establish how gay-friendly America’s top 500 firms are. And it’s the US subsidiary of Dutch bank insurer ING that can hang out the pink flag in Atlanta.

With 85 points out of 100, Shell Oil in Houston wasn’t far behind but the lack of a specific ‘gender identity’ clause in its personnel policy got it a smack on the wrists.
And according to the annual survey by the US homosexual and lesbian activist group Human Rights Campaign, the Dutch firm with the lowest ‘pink ceiling’ is the US subsidiary of Aegon which scored just 35 points.
The Volksrant goes on to point out that the insurance group didn’t do too well in its own survey of corporate barriers which stop women progressing up the career ladder either.
