Traditional tv watching still way ahead of streaming: survey

Despite the growing presence of Netflix and other online services, the Dutch are still largely listening to the radio and watching television in the traditional way, according to figures released on Thursday.
The figures come from research jointly carried out by the government’s socio-cultural policy advisor SCP and a range of organisations involved in surveys on how people use the media and how they experience advertising.
The research is carried out every two years and figures from 2013 showed that watching television took up an average of two hours and 31 minutes per person per day. The latest figures, from 2015, show this has remained almost stable at two hours and 24 minutes.

The amount of time spent watching downloaded, streamed or bought programmes or films has risen by 50%, but was still only 15 minutes a day on average in 2015.
Radio is also way ahead of other ways of listening such as personal music or via the internet. Listening hours per day have dropped slightly from two hours 16 minutes in 2013 to two hours and eight minutes in 2015.
The amount of time spent on all forms of media is three hours and 16 minutes.
