Terrorism risk remains limited
The risk of a terrorist attack in the Netherlands remains officially ‘limited’ but there is small risk of election-related violence in the run up to the June 9 vote, according to the latest report from the government’s counter terrorism advisor Erik Akkerboom.
In his report, Akkerboom says the possibility of major political shifts coupled with the polarisated debate over Islam in the Netherlands has led to an ‘increased risk of political violence’.
However, a spokesman for the NCTb told the Volkskrant later there are ‘no concrete indications that anything will happen’. There is a chance people will see the current situation as a reason for violence, he said. ‘It could just be written threats,’ the spokesman told the paper.
The report also said that the Dutch Muslim community is less open to radical Islam now than it was five years ago.
